Chaweng regent sliding down the rankings?!?

Hi all, ive booked to stay in the chaweng regent later this year on honeymoon, when we booked it was ranked about 15th on trip advisor it has now dropped to 36th!! The most recent reviewer gave it 1star. Can anyone give me reassusrance or give an honest opinion what they think of this hotel...we could change it, but that might be unwanted hassle.

Also anyone care to comment on october weather we%26#39;re there 7th-22nd october...I know its the beginning of the rainy season but when we booked our agent and brochures said it usually only rains 30mins a day and there can be none for a few days anyway. Ive heard since then that this is being a bit generous!

I always when reading peoples reviews of hotels take into account when they actually stayed there, you often find if the weather was crap (wet season)and the hotel was very busy or very quiet it gets a bad review, Its a very popular hotel with the dutch

most holiday brochures in holland offer this hotel even Kuoni and they are one of the best. And i often suspect that some reviews come from some of the hotels themselves either saying bad things about other hotels or good things about there own, just for the competition especially during the low seasons which happens to be about now in samui, its difficult to tell sometimes if reveiws are not genuine, its looks like a nice hotel so does the amari and the centara grand or the imperial if you want to stay on chaweng beach, they look like the best ones to choose from, I dont think I would be able to decide between them they all look nice. The waterfront at Bho put is ranked no 1 to me it looks like a dump the chaweng regent looks much nicer to say its ranked 36th. How do these hotels get ranked anyway thats what I would like to know?

Thanks manicus for your response...its hard to know what to do there are constantly conflicting reports on hotels on this website. The hotels are ranked based on the ratings given in reviews here on trip advisor. i.e if the average rating is 5 out of 5 then that hotel would be number 1. The chaweng regents average rating is 4out of 5 which is still exellent so I might wait and see over the next couple of months. As long as it doesnt drop to 3.5 i might just stay put!

Don%26#39;t get too caught up with the ratings - the Waterfront is rated Number 1 but I can assure it has nothing to do with the room quality , pool , gardens, beach etc. (you will notice their reviews have nothing about these points - the owners work the hospitality angle very well. As previous posts have stated if the weather is awful this also tends to reflect on the holiday rating - the frustration kicks in?? I tend to look for the highest rating in tripadvisor %26amp; star rating - then take into account cost. I was in Samui this week (Amari which is very nice) and walked past the Regent many times - it looked O.K to me.

Seriously, dont worry about the bad reviews, the latest low review seemed to be based on the town and the beach - not the actual hotel.

The only downside i found was that our room was a bit tired and could%26#39;ve done with an update but we were moved to a newer room when i mentioned this to the manager.
