Rush hour in Bangkok

Flying into Bangkok on a Wed and arrive at 5P. Will this be rush hour? I have heard stories about traffic and wonder if we should try the train or some other means rather than hotel transfer. Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

Rush hour in Bangkok

It has been a year and a half since I have been in Bangkok but when I was there the skytrain did not go out to the airport.

I would recommend you just take a taxi or the hotel transfer and drink in all the craziness that is Bangkok along the route! It is a fascinating city!

If you are due to arrive at 5pm then chances you will not be out of the airport till about 6 - 6:30 so you will be getting to the end of the evening rush period.

Train is not due to open till next year earliest and the train will be as busy as the roads.

Take a taxi and enjoy the experience of Bangkok traffic.

The train is not even close to completion but taxis are inexpensive and quite enjoyable from the airport actually. Taxis are easily got just outside the main arrivals hall and should cost no more than 400 Baht. Make sure the meter is switched on first though.

Hey, no big deal! After sitting your butt on a plane from the U.S. to Thailand for so long - what%26#39;s the big problem with a taxi ride that is maybe a half hour longer??

I usually arrive around midnight all the time now, I wish I could be in the big city before 6:50 PM!

By the time you finish with getting through immigration and customs and getting your money changed over - you may not be in a taxi until around 6 anyway! Most of the taxi drivers know how to beat some of the heavy traffic. Oh yeah, make sure you have some small bills for paying the driver if you intend to get some change back!

Good luck, have fun!
