Bangkok-Chiang Mai train

We%26#39;re looking at taking the train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai in a 1st class cabin. Want somethign different for our daughter. We%26#39;re flying all over Cambodia and Laos, so want to break it up with a change of scenery so to speak.

However I can%26#39;t seem to find any information on prices for children.

Our daughter will be 3, so she could bunk in with one of us and won%26#39;t need her own bed. I understand there are only 2 beds in the cabin and I don%26#39;t fancy either my husband or I having to go solo in a cabin just so she can have a bed.

Will they allow this?

On the Thailand train website, in the supplement section, it mentions an additional 1000BHT for using the 1st class double bed.

I think they mean, a single person/solo traveller supplement so you get the cabin on your own, but I thought I%26#39;d better check just in case!

Also, from other posts and websites, I gathered the price was around the 1300BHT price one-way, but their website say less than 600BHT for this trip in 1st class.

Have I read it wrong, or have they updated their prices to compete with low cost airlines?

Thanks all!

Thanks!

Have you looked at www.seat61.com? They say ';Children aged 0 to 3 and less than 100cm in height travel free, children aged 4 to 11 and under 150cm travel at half fare, children 12 years old and upwards (or over 150cm high) pay full fare.';

Thanks for that. I must have missed that bit when I looked at seat61.

Do you know which site has the right fare quoted? Seat61 or the Thai railways one?

Do you think there is enough room for a small 3 year old with an adult in one of the beds? Will they allow this?

Thanks!
