Hi,
Just a quick question... i don%26#39;t want to take both items so which would u recommend for our 17 month old?? Sh is a lightweight at 9 kgs so weight on the back is not an issue more so the heat/sweating plus baby on back equals unhappy mummy/daddy...?? also can%26#39;t remember what the footpaths were like (at 19 i was not concerning myself with negotiating strollers!!)
Although i have a 3.5 yr old so the stroller would probably be more versatile.
I dunno pls help.
We r also heading to KL and Penang. end of may/early june
thanks!
Stroller or baby backpack carrier??

I would go for the stroller.Your right with the heat and baby on back cranky lol ..Then the stroller can help carry the shopping bags.

Stroller or baby backpack carrier??
I%26#39;ve used a stroller in the past and had no problems with the footpaths. I think you are right....the heat/sweating with a baby on your back would be uncomfortable.
Hi Melinda,
I have tried both with a 10 month old. I found the backpack ( one of the ones that carry a newborn not the one with the frame) was way too hot for me and probably for baby.
I used the stroller everywhere in Phuket and Bangkok. Phuket was a lot easier, never had any problems with footpaths. Bangkok, it was still great but harder to move up the stairs of the BTS. Used to take baby out, one of us carry him and fold up pram and carry it up.
Just a thought though, if you also have a 3.5 year old he will probably get very tired in the heat too. My son turns 3 in June when we are going and I am taking a stroller (one of those cheap fold up ones) in anticipation of this. Better to push him around rather than carry him and he is only 12kgs but feels 20kgs.
My suggestion would be if you have one of the baby bjorn? backpacks it would still be worth taking as it will not take up much room as well as a stroller. This way you would be able to use both when your 3 year old needs to rest. If you don%26#39;t have one of these I am sure if you ask around someone you know will probably have one stored away that you could borrow.
Also, most airlines do not include a stroller for an infant in your luggage allowance. We didn%26#39;t know this and were going to leave the cheap stroller behind if our luggage was too heavy.
With a pram, you can leave your baby in it right up to boarding time and they will leave it in front of plane, and bring it out when you get off plane. This makes it a lot easier when you have to go and pick up luggage etc. You just need to let them know at checkin so they can label it.
One word of warning on using a pram though.....be very careful when crossing the road. Our natural habit is to push pram in front of us but Thailand does not have a give way to pedestrian rule and if they roar around the corner etc they will clip pram first. Just get your hubby to walk in front of you when crossing roads and be extra vigilant.
Any other help regarding kids, only to happy to help.
You will all have a ball
regards
Karin
I would highly recommend a stroller than the babypack, it%26#39;s so humid, shy put extra on your back.
Also last time we were there we had a 22mth and an early 4yr old and I found that although miss 4 was used to walking at home a good amount of distance the heat and humidity just zapped her energy in Thailand. We used to swap the kids around in the sroller to give mis 4 abit of a relax, it worked wonderfully.
I remember saying to the husband, 2nd day into our hol in Bangkok at the time, that the stroller had more than paid itself off, it%26#39;s also great for hanging bags off it as well!
I took my 18 month old this time last year to Bangkok and Koh Chang and I managed to do both!
We had a Mothercare convertible stroller/backpack.
It folds up and baby goes on your back, or you open it up and it%26#39;s a 4 wheel harness pram.
The stroller function on it was brilliant. We didnt end up using the backpack side of it much due to the heat.
I would have preferred to take a proper/lightweight/recliner stroller as I found she slept a lot in the heat and with us out for dinner every night, it would have been great to allow her to sleep comfortably while we ate.
At least at 17 months you have the option of making her walk if you need to fold it up.
Stroller gets my vote!!
