Hi, Im heading to phuket in late oct and staying for about 20 days. ive been to thailand (not phuket) a few times and typicaly i would just wait till i landed before finding a guest house or hotel. However, this time i have my 2 kids (both under 5) with me. Can anyone advise as to if phuket (it does seem a bit more expensive hotel wise) is the type of place where i could do this and be fairly certain of finding something decent on arrival, or would you suggest booking in advance. Now that i have booked the flights, i am slightly concerned as to hotel costs from online research ive carried out so far. Any help greatly appreciated.

Bad News I am afraid Nobby.

Last October Phuket was crawling with those awful Australians. I know, my boat was full of them. Even though it was the last month of the low season, the place was very busy. Not sure about this year, but last time there were school holidays in October, and of course being Aussies they were also trying to take advantage of low season prices before the high season started.

The point being, if this year is like last you had better book ahead if you want to secure nice acommodation. Well ahead.

Also, you will have to put up with a lot of sneering about cicket and stuff while you are here. Which is not at all fair as everyone knows you guys have not played the game in years.

Lets see who hogs the sunbeds in October!

Hiya Nobby,

Mate, you are going when it is pretty much Peak period. I would not risk arriving without accommodation pre-booked. You may have to drag the kids from hotel to hotel. You will also be paying top dollar too, if you leave it to the last minute.

I would book through a travel agent or your can try online (I don%26#39;t book online). At least you will have accommodation booked and paid for, before you arrive. Much less stress.!

There are some reasonably priced hotels where families and/or kids would enjoy. I believe a lot of the smaller , less expensive hotels are more suited to the single guy. That%26#39;s just my opinion.

Ask your travel agent if there are any package deals or specials for accommodation.

Good Luck

Niko
