Villa Tipping

Sorry should have mentioned we are staying 8 nights.

Villa Tipping

Hi, We usually tip our room maids in the hotel quite well at the beginning of our stay so they tend to look after us, and at the end of our stay, give them toiletries and a few gifts and some money, but if your all sharing a villa, the tips could be a nice little windfall for the staff. Depending on how well you get to know them, and you will, plus being waited on hand and foot for 8 days and then having to realise you DO have to go home, you will probably be happy to pay for their childrens schooling. LOL, just joking but whatever you think is a fair thing, they will be happy with whatever you do. Sue

Hi Sue

Thanks for your response. Yes I do have to admit am very much looking forward to having everything done for us( even if it is for 8 nights). The real world can stay away for that long.

Depends.

I give my butler 500b/day when in a villa here, in return I expect him to be available from 9am to whenever last guests leave if we%26#39;re eating in with guests even if its 1am, although very often he%26#39;ll be on his way by 7pm. He%26#39;s delighted with the arrangement and organises everything and everyone.

Other staff I tip at the end of the stay.

Personally I%26#39;d make it clear to the butler or manager depending on set up that you%26#39;ll tip at end of stay. Then place the money in an envelope, individually, for each staff member. Totally up to you.

Wages in Thailand around 200 baht/day for maid. Chefs can vary - an exec (thai) chef in large resort could be on 80 000 + a month, although if its just a local knocking up a few eggs for breakfast etc probably 10000/ month or less.

Thank you for your response, very helpful and appreciated. M

I have tipped at the beginning of my stay before, and would never do it again. For one thing, you%26#39;re not guaranteed that the staff member/s that have served you so well for days is going to be there on the first or the last day. I really think that daily tipping is the way to go. Also, I%26#39;ve found that early tipping leads to flippancy and poorer service than having them work towards a tip, rather than have it as a given, no matter what kind of service they provide.
