1st time to Koh Samui, Recommendations?

Hi All

My partner and I are planing to go to a wedding at the Zazen Resort in August and have just paid for the airfare from Australia.

After doing research on the web and this fantastic website I have tentatively decide to book a stop over nite at the Phuket Airport Hotel due to the late arrival in Phuket and then on to Koh Samui and looking at 10 nights at the Waterfront on Bophut beach.

Our holiday is fairly flexible apart from the wedding on the 8th. Accommodation budget is arountd $100 a night. Does this sound alright for anyone who has been to the Waterfront on Koh Sanui before? Any help/recommendations would be much appreciated.

If your just doing a stop over in Phuket, get a hotel that is near the airport (sound like you might have) and don%26#39;t expect to get to the beach or anything. The beach areas are well over a 40 minute drive from the airport.

Good luck and have fun. 100 bucks a night for beach front accommodations in Samui sounds OK. there are more expensive and less expensive.

Hi Simon,

Sounds like you have a great trip ahead! I stayed at Waterfront Bophut last year, and it didn%26#39;t live up to my expectations. I think it is because it is #1 on tripadvisor, however the price does reflect the quality.

The main thing is the beach is not good, and especially coming from Australia where we have amazing beaches, it is a let down. I found Chaweng much nicer (particularly the southern end as the tide can go out in the northern end and be really shallow).

Considering that you are staying for 10 nights, I would look into a deal that offers free nights, as there are lots of deals going around if you stay a certain number of nights you get a certain number for free.

Most travel brochures will show this (including the Qantas one on the internet), and you can just pick up some brochures from a travel agent to see what offers the resorts are putting out.

It can save you a lot of money by doing this!

Thanx Reviewer14 for your reply.

My missus would hate it if we went to a beach that she wouldn%26#39;t like!

Another hotel I was looking at was the Maenamburi Resort on Maenam Beach as it was a little more quiter than Chaweng and the beach looked nicer. The only bad thing I read on this website was the owner was a bit rude.

Can anyone confirm this or have their own opinion of the resort?

I%26#39;m looking at Maenamburi Resort too. I tried to contact them through their website, but the contact method doesn%26#39;t seem to be working :(

Hi we stayed at Bophut (Peace resort), but I would choose either the south or north end of Chaweng beach next time.
