thailand on a budget

i%26#39;m thinking about going to thailand for a few months (maybe more) so am looking to keep costs down. what could i realistically spend per day/week (including accommodation) if i didn%26#39;t want to spend too much, and are some areas cheaper than others? accommodation-wise as long as i%26#39;ve got a bed and a private bathroom i%26#39;m pretty flexible.

thanks in advance

The best website for you to start planning your trip would be www.travelfish.org

You could probably spend as little as 10-15 pounds per day... maybe even less.. just depends on how good you are!

Stay near Khaosan Rd. There are cheap and good accommodations..you can take any tour up there or you can go to see the GP, Wat Arun or Wat Pho on your own as they are in the same area.

thanks for your answers.

you mentioned 10-15 pounds a day, surely that doesn%26#39;t include accommodation??

Yep that includes accommodation.. just depends on your budget, and the standard of accommodation you can put up with .... We found some fantastic rooms for 400-1000 baht in our travels, and survived on about 1500 baht per person per day living comfortably!

thanks emjayreet

it looks like i may be able to stay longer than i expected.

It is surprisingly cheap, and as long as you do your research then you should be able to have a good time on a minimal budget.

If you are interested you are welcome to browse through my blogs for ideas at www.travelblog.org/bloggers/reet and feel free to contact me re any of the accommodation etc

One can enjoy Thailand for 20-25 US dollars per day (room, food and a couple tuk-tuk rides per day) easily if you aren%26#39;t looking for luxury. Of course, night life would be additional if that is on your agenda.

I concur that Khoasan Road is the center for cheap living, although other areas are just as thrifty.

If you want to get out of Bangkok learn about the train system....it can be very thrifty travel...especially if you have time.

Have fun and do your research NOW. You can do it.
