We are thinking of going to Thailand next March for our 25th wedding anniversary, we may go to bangkok or hongkong first, but cannot decide on Koh Samui or Phuket. We like to have the odd day trip, shopping a nice swimming pool and just a nice meal and drink at night (not to expensive food) any suggestions on which would suit us best.

Koh Samui or Phuket
Koh Samui is probably more quiet and a little slower that Phuket if that is what you want. Phuket is more accessible (flight choices), has more hotel choices and more to offer as to shopping and activities. I have been to each numerous times and my wife and I prefer Phuket over Samui for the reasons above.
