Merlin Beach Resort

Hi all,





I am going back to the Merlin Beach Resort in August and have booked a pool access room, although recently I have been reading reviews that they get there and have not got a pool access room!! I would hate this to happen to us.





What do you guys suggest we do to make sure we get what we paid for?

We booked with Merlin Beach resort and had confirmed two pool access rooms. I discoved a clause where they state no children under 12 can stay in a pool access room. Our daughter will be a few days short of twelve. Because of this I queried with the hotel only to find they said they never had our booking and all the pool access rooms were now full!!





We were so so disappointed.





Send an email to the hotel asking for confirmation of your booking.Phone them if you have to but get it in writing. That way you have proof. I have friends who stayed there and they loved it so I am sure you will have a wonderful time. Just go prepared with your confirmation in writing.

We met other couples with the same issues as us, and then we also met 3 couples who went straight into their rooms.





You MAY get lucky..





Personally...I wont take the chance next time.

My husband was talking to a travel agent yesterday about problems with hotels , overbooking etc, and she said , the guests that complain and don%26#39;t back down usually get what they have paid for.



In our experience this is true, we have even called our travel agent in Aus. to have thing sorted out.



With the hotels phone of course.



Just stand your ground.

Hi caz1976, We are staying at the Merlin beach resort in a deluxe pool access room in May, I emailed the resort to ask for confirmation (as i also read some bad reviews on bookings). How ever their reply was that they book bulk through travel agents so they are unable to give confirmation on rooms. I hope we get what we payed for.Very nervious, however cannot wait. lea88




To be honest we went there for part of our honeymoon and after reading the reviews thought it would be the best palce ever, We booked and got our pool access room , on the corner room 1431 if I remember correctly , the access rooms are good, not great but good, there was a snake that was caught and killed going for a swim on one of the days, needless to say that reduced the number of peopel swimming in the pool that night,



I think it is totally unacceptable that you would book and pay for a room and not get it, it is why they have a reservation system, I would call the general manager of the hotel and ensure that your booking was confirmed with them,



But in saying that if you have not yet booked I would stay elsewhere, I didn%26#39;t like the taxi mafia out the front , I didn%26#39;t like the same breakfast every day, I dind%26#39;t like the strong smell of urine that was in the main pool where the pool bar is, but if that is your thing that is ok. I would recommend the Le meridien or the Diamond Cliff resort both have nice pools , perhaps the diamond has better , but not a private beach.

Thats all well and good if you arrive during Aussie business hours, but we got in at 10pm. Also.... your Aussie agent uses a wholesaler to book the resort, so they need to contact them first. My agent did all this the morning after we arrived, but agreed, there was NOTHING they could do from their end, and they were as annoyed as us after they%26#39;d had our room confirmed.





You can NEVER shout at a THAI.. it simply embarrases them and you never get anything done. We argued, quietly that we%26#39;d paid for the room, and therefore we should have it... they argued that everyone IN the rooms had also done the same thing and they offered us VOUCHERS.. which we STUPIDLY TOOK !





Next time, I will politely request to see the general manager and ask for a refund on the difference.

But we did ring our agent in Aus and he rang the manager of the hotel and did sort things out for us!!



This was not The Merlin though,I did not mean you should yell, that won%26#39;t get anyone anywhere.



I just think we should stand our ground when things aren%26#39;t right.



Last year we booked our Thailand trip through Directrooms and they have a 24 hour English speaking helpline I rang them at 10PM and they were fantastic,within minutes the Manager was on the phone asking us to see him first thing in the morning and all our problems were solved.

We usually book our holidays with Asia Rooms,they say you don%26#39;t need to confirm with the hotel,but we always do,and they put the room you have booked on the return email.Then just take a copy of this with you.
