Mobile Phones - Bangkok vs Pattaya?

Somebody told me that they brought a mobile phone in Pattaya and it is better to buy here than in Bangkok. Does anybody know if this is true or not or are they on par with each other?

Thanks

Karin

Mobile Phones - Bangkok vs Pattaya?

Price and selection won%26#39;t be much different, although maybe slightly bigger selection in Bangkok. Like everything else, you need to compare prices. Be aware that some small shops sell 2nd hand phone and have signs in Thai, but not in English.

Karin, there%26#39;s just more choice of models in MBK in Bangkok, but no real price difference, as far as I can tell. In either city you%26#39;ll be able to find something to suit your needs.

There are only so many models of phones and both places will have %26#39;em all in abundance....any saving will be negated by the costs of time and travel.

sounds like your mate is making a sweeping judgment on the basis of one deal or one day%26#39;s looking around.

In Pattaya you will find ALL the places are within a short distance of each other....Big C mall 2nd raod, Tuk.Com South rd are the most established.

..there%26#39;s also Tuk.com in Sri Racha.

Hi Guys,

thanks for all the replies. As usual it is a case of do your research and shop around.

Thanks again

Karin

You state ';buy here'; are you in Pattaya allready? if not it%26#39;s cheaper to buy them in Australia or Europe and the UK, around 30% or more savings compared with Thailand, if your in Pattaya and want to buy one now go to TukCom on South Pattaya Rd and haggle, 2nd hand new models also available cheaper.

Hi ThaiExpat2

no we do not come until May/June. Will price them in Australia and then have a look while we are in Bangkok,Phuket,Chiang Mai and Pattaya. By then we will surely know where it is best to buy. Do not need to rush into it as we will have phones with us already. Thanks for your help

Cheers

Cheaper in UK??? and OZ????? not last time I was in eithher place....but that WAS a while ago......I remember that SIMs in UK and Oz were prohibitively expensive and a ';non- attached'; phone was also dear. The phones in both countries were subsidized is you signed up to a contract with a service provider but then you have a year contract and a phone you need to get unblocked.

OK the situation may have changed in the past 3 years but I%26#39;ve not heard about it.

In Thailand you can buy any phone as a stand alone product 1500 to 20,000 baht and then buy a SIM for 50 BAHT.

For comparison - My Nokia 2630 cost 3500 baht 2 months ago.

Obviously Khunwilko it%26#39;s the pay as you go mobiles that I am talking about where you can change the SIM card and they can be brought at Tesco/Sainsbury etc. and online, yes the phones that tie you into a contract are practically given away, Karin heres an online retailer in Thailand who even undercuts the shops in Pattaya to get an idea of the prices

Thanks for that ThaiExpat2. Will go and have a look.So besides souvineers, DVDS and clothes what else is a lot cheaper in Thailand that people buy up on. Would hate to miss out.

If your into Oriental cooking the spices pastes and sauces are very cheap in the supermarkets, you mention the clothes, shoes and trainers are also good value, computer and games console games are as well as music cds, one thing you must buy if you have the money is some Thai Gold though the price is now fairly high compared to a couple of years ago Thai Gold has a high Gold content making it a nice bright colour though it is softer, treat yourself to a pair of earings.
