Christmas in Phuket

Hi all

I am after some information about Christmas and New Year in Phuket. We have only visited Phuket once before in summer 06 but intend to return at Christmas. We previously stayed at the Cape Panwa and had a great experience, has anyone else been there at Christmas? What was it like?

I have been looking online for some deals but it seems most hotels want to charge for the gala dinners which seem expensive. Does this mean there is no where to get food on Christmas eve/day etc?

Have also been looking at the indigo pearl anyone have experience of christmas etc there?

In general any information on good hotels for this time of year would be great.

thanks

All the shops and restaurants are open at Christmas and most Gala Dinners are an absolute rort. So try for a hotel that does not do European package tours.

BOOK NOW!

Christmas is a time when alot of Europeans stay for several weeks in their winter, especially in Phuket.

Thanks for that

I keep looking but am not too sure about some of the web-sites that advertise complete packages. Any ideas??

You do not need any packages - just accomodation.

Even breakfast is cheaper outside the hotels. NO DEALS!

Try asiarooms.com or sawasdee.com for room rates.

For eating, Christmas is a working day in Thailand, as most peoiple in Phuket are eiher Budhhist or Muslim, so while you will see Christmas decorations, its not a holiday. Everything will be open, some places used by tourists /expats will have christmas specials (like the Green Man, and most hotels) but Thai restaurants have normal prices and will be open. New Year is a special night and prices are likely to be higher to cover the cost of extra payments to staff who have to work over that period.
