are any families with young kids in bangkok for songkran,
myself ,husband and little girl aged 4 will be in banyan tree over songkran,
just wondering whats the best places to join in the fun with young kids,
we are thinking koh san road might be to much for little one,
anyone else with kids there ,and what have you got planned,
songkran (for families)
The festivities continue all over town, and yes, Kao San Road would be way too rough for little children.
If you go out of the Banyan Tree and turn left, and continue down to the garage, and turn left down Soi Suan Phlu, you would be enetering a typical neighbourhood and will find plenty of water there, on your door step, so to speak.
You will be wet before you reach the garage, and you will be able to judge what the children think.
It may be better therefore, to take a cab (keep dry!)from your hotel to Silom Road and Robinson%26#39;s Department Store or Central Department Store, 5 minutes, and watch from a high vantage point.
From there you can also take a skytrain ride, and again, observe from above. Once you get the hang of things then you can just walk down the road and you will be ready to be soaked. If you are lucky they will not aim all over, but keep to your torso.
songkran (for families)
thanks yonny for info.
yes we want to join in . hoping to go to the weekend market first thing on sunday morning, untill lunch time ,then join in the songkran in the afternoon. do you think we will get to the market without getting wet
You can get a taxi from your hotel lobby direct to Chatujak, and once inside the market you would probably be ok - you will see lots of water on the way though, so keep the windows closed.
Also, to be on the safe side, keep your mobile phone covered in plastic, carry a minimum of %26#39;%26#39;stuff%26#39;%26#39; eg minimal wallett contents and handbag contents, and if you must carry a camera, make sure it is a cheap one, also protected in a plastic bag!
Bangkokians tend to go back to visit parents and families up country, to pay their new year respects, so traffic is lighter than normal and you should have a clear run to the markets.
